USDA Leadership Essentials Certificate Program (LECP)

USDA ALPLeadership is often described as a process of social influence in which a person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common goal. Effective leadership is a constant personal challenge requiring a key set of competencies and the ability to build productive relationships and coalitions. The LECP is designed for those who are currently in roles that require advanced leadership skills needed to meet the challenges of a complex environment.

The USDA Leadership Essentials Certificate Program has three main objectives:

  • Enhanced understanding of essential leadership competencies
  • Create cohorts of prepared leaders for organizational succession planning needs
  • Develop a USDA community of trained leaders

The USDA LECP is intended for employees at the GS 13 through GS 15 levels that desire to enhance and expand their leadership skills and are committed to leadership development. The LECP is offered at no cost to employees and is self-paced.

Participants will enhance the following competencies:

Human Capital Management Financial Management
Leveraging Diversity Team Building
Developing Others Influencing/Negotiating
