Protective Operations Division

The mission of the Protective Operations Division (POD) is to provide physical and technical security programs in the USDA Headquarters Complex (Jamie L. Whitten and South Building), the George Washington Carver Center (GWCC), and at all USDA (owned and leased facilities) in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The POD provides and maintains a comprehensive security programs by way of facility access control, security escort services, identification badge issuance, and incident reporting and responding. In addition, the POD manages special police officers, guard services, provides and enforces security policies, regulations, and procedures for USDA facilities in the NCR. POD security personnel serve as a liaison with the Federal Protective Service (FPS), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of the Inspector General (OIG), General Services Administration (GSA), and law enforcement to ensure a safe and secure environment for USDA employees, service providers, visitors, and its affiliates.
