Property Management Division

Provide Departmental executive leadership and oversight on: a full range of real and personal property management issues; associated systems required for inventory and accountability purposes; required energy and environmental management issues to include sustainable operations.

 

The Property Management Division (PMD) provides overall leadership, coordination, and direction for the management of USDA's portfolio of real, personal and fleet property, which includes land, buildings, equipment, vehicles and aircraft. PMD develops and monitors Department-wide policies, procedures, and regulations governing property management to ensure that sound practices are in place for the management of USDA's assets. PMD develops and deploys property systems to assist Agencies in leveraging property assets in support of their missions.

Real Property
USDA owns approximately 193 million acres of land, making it the second largest civilian landholding Agency in the Federal Government. The Property Management Division develops regulations, standards, and techniques concerning receipt, utilization, preservation, disposal, and replacement of real property.


Personal Property
USDA owns and accounts for over 177,000 pieces of personal property worth a total acquisition value of over $3.6 billion. The Department owns and operates one of the largest civilian aircraft fleets in the Federal Government. The Property Management Division develops regulations, standards, and techniques concerning receipt, utilization, preservation, disposal, and replacement of personal property.


Fleet Management
USDA owns and operates over 40,000 vehicles, ranging from sedans and trucks to sport utility vehicles and commercial vans. The Property Management Division provides management and oversight of license plates and fleet charge cards, as well as policy development and implementation. USDA has been focusing on promotion of fleet efficiency, through right-sizing agency fleets, acquisition of fuel efficient or alternative fuel vehicles, and usage of alternative fuel where applicable.
